Suzanne Henley, LCDC

"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.”

— Alice Walker

Hello! I am Suzanne Henley, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) with over 13 years of experience in the field of addiction treatment and recovery counseling. I came to this career by way of my own long-term recovery and have never looked back. I realized early on that recovery is definitely for everyone but it can be difficult to find your way and cultivate a recovery that works for you. I take the “many paths” perspective and have a person-centered eclectic approach to counseling and recovery coaching.

I attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for my Bachelor’s degree and then returned to school for addictions counseling. I have worked in many different settings including inpatient/outpatient and detox levels of care, county-based treatment settings, and methadone harm reduction clinics. I have learned so much from all of this experience in order to better understand the need for flexibility in the recovery process.

I use a combination of recovery fundamentals, through education, evidence-based techniques, and customized recovery plans to help people find their path to a better healthier self. My approach is holistic and I like to incorporate the body, mind, and spirit to heal the whole self. I am versed in harm reduction models of care and abstinence-based recovery interventions.

However, more than that, I offer a judgment-free space to explore underlying causes for substance misuse, try new things, learn from mistakes, and begin to feel hopeful about what is possible.

Non-discrimination policy: I am dedicated to ever-increasing my knowledge on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, sexual practices, age, religion, spirituality, and people who are physically different than me as part of my ongoing effort to keep myself educated and informed. I do this in order to provide the highest level of ethical care in supporting my clients and community. My current and future efforts will continue to reflect my dedication and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with respect and compassion for every human being that I am honored to support.
