“What frightens and dismays us is not external events themselves, but how we think about them. It is not things that disturb us, but our interpretation of their significance.”
— Epictetus
Hi, I’m Andrew, better known as “Drew”. I’m a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC-I) and Certified Trauma Informed Counselor (CTIC).
In the first part of my life, I had a long, successful, and fulfilling career in Sports Medicine. While working in the NFL and Division I-A Football, I was often in the position of holding an athlete’s hand moments after experiencing the trauma of a career-ending injury. My ability to stay calm in a crisis and to be mindfully grounded allowed me to hold space for my patients in moments of terrifying bodily injuries. This gift is something I’m grateful to now be able to use in therapy. My soothing, non-judgmental, curious, and nurturing demeanor creates a safe environment for therapeutic recovery work that highlights the connection between the mind and body.
I have a deep sense of gratitude that I’m able to bring my sports medicine experience of sitting with people through excruciating trauma, working side by side in their healing process- both physically and emotionally. I’m now able to translate these skills into helping those suffering from addiction. I’ve had the honor of witnessing many miracles in the field of recovery and there’s nothing more satisfying to me than seeing someone put their life and family back together in a sober life filled with joy.
My passion for recovery led me to explore alternative modalities of healing. As a result, I became certified in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). This innovative treatment technique allows someone to explore beyond the conscious walls that our defensive mind has set up. I enjoy leading clients through KAP journeys to help them discover different perspectives and views of the world. Click here to learn more about KAP therapy. I’m also passionate about my work in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a type of psychotherapy that helps someone acknowledge their negative thoughts and feelings without judgment. Through the ACT process of diffusion, patients can stop identifying with their negative cognitions and step into a more holistic, authentic version of themselves. As a Certified Trauma-informed Counselor and having been through my own trauma in life, I am well-equipped to help my clients process the trauma that life throws at us. As Dr. Bruce Perry says “It’s not you, it’s what happened to you”. My innate drive to help others succeed in their endeavors, combined with my lived experience, puts me in a wonderful position to walk with clients through addiction, and many of life's other challenges.
